Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 Fuzz Effect Pedal

A sequel to rival next year's James Cameron flick, who ever imagined the day they'd see the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2? The Big Muff Pi – yeah, that one – has had a long history with plenty of spin-offs and offshoots, but never a proper "Part 2." Among the Rams, Russians, and Triangles of history, the Big Muff Pi has garnered quite the reputation. Today's Big Muff Pi 2 is a direct follow-up spurred on by lifelong Big Muff devotee Josh Scott of JHS Pedals with all the love and expertise you'd expect for such an institution in fuzz effects.

The Big Muff Pi 2 came together from the work of, who else but, EHX Founder and President Mike Matthews. Back in the day, Matthews commonly collaborated with inventor Bob Myer. The duo was responsible for so many of the groundbreaking designs EHX became famous for. Myer in particular elevated many designs with his knowledge of contemporary technology. Recently, Josh Scott uncovered a never-before-seen schematic from Myer's abandoned workshop notes for an unrealized Big Muff Pi 2. The rest is history.

Today's Big Muff Pi 2 utilizes a never-attempted duo of dual op-amps for a fresh spin on the Big Muff tone. The two dual op-amp design never made the cut in the late '70s, but today it arrives right on time. The Big Muff Pi 2's tone bumps up from the original's with a bigger, fuller, boosted fuzzy voice that starts and ends louder when its iconic three-dial setup is pushed. Crispier highs and rougher edges make the Big Muff Pi 2 an all-new experience alongside new temporary or latching footswitching, true bypass toggling, and standard nine-volt center negative power supply connection or optional nine-volt battery connection.

Sequels are tricky. Sometimes you're Empire Strikes Back, other times, you're Temple of Doom. In any case, the Big Muff Pi 2 is a welcomed visit from a Big Muff you never knew you lost.

  • Never-before-seen Big Muff Pi design assembled by JHS Pedals
  • All-analog design with two dual op-amps
  • Three-way control scheme with Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls
  • True bypass footswitching with momentary/latching footswitch
