Epiphone Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe Banjo w/Hard Case, Natural
As part of Epiphoneâs Inspired by Gibson collection, the famous name brings to life a replica of historyâs most sought-after banjo â the Epiphone Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe Banjo. Earl Scruggs, likely the most influential banjo player to pick up the instrument, popularized the three-finger banjo picking style so ubiquitous among players today. This style, now dubbed the âScruggs style,â is heard all over bluegrass music of past and present and is considered a defining characteristic of the genre. For his contributions to music, Epiphone has recreated the rare Gibson RB-Granada Mastertone five-string banjo that Scruggs first picked up in 1949 and played all the way to his passing in 2012. Were there ever a single banjo to define a sound, it just might be this one here.
The Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe is a resonator style banjo with an eleven-inch Remo Frosted banjo head and a one-piece flange. This Mastertone construction features a three-ply maple resonator with figured maple veneer and a three-play turned layered maple rim. Single ply binding can be found across the top, resonator and fingerboard. This Epiphone piece features a figured maple neck and a 26.4â scale length. An ebony fingerboard matches up with this C-shaped neck with twenty-two Narrow/Medium frets and Mother of Pearl âHearts and Flowersâ fret inlays. Across the front and back of this neck, the playing experience is smooth and easy for speedy trips from higher to lower registers. A 1.181â bone nut and five-string maple bridge with an ebony cap ground the strings solidly for easy and responsive picking and intonation. Planetary tuning machines with Pearloid buttons top off the headstock for a totally impressive aesthetic and musical package. This Earl Scruggs Golden Deluxe ships with a hardshell case to travel from one bluegrass gig to the next.
