Fender American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass, Maple, Vintage Blonde
Fenderâs American Vintage II Series is a meticulously designed collection of period-correct electric guitars and basses. Each model is carefully chosen and recreated based on its contribution to the Fender story of that year. All models feature year specific bodies, necks, hardware, finishes, and pickups. American Vintage II is the most accurate production series of legacy instruments across the timeline of Fender history.
The Fender American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass calls back to a year of big changes for the P-Bass. Prior to 1954, the Precision bass was a slab body design, like a Telecaster, but in 1954, the body became contoured, like the newly introduced Stratocaster. At this point however, the bass still has the large Tele-Style headstock. Period accurate, and often a surprise, are the reverse open gear tuners which tune UP in the opposite direction of a standard modern guitar. Takes a second, but youâll catch on. At this point there are still 2 fiber bridge saddles as they wouldnât switch to steel until very late in â54 and into â55. This was the first year of the burst on a Precision bass and the first year for white guards. The pickup at this point is still the single coil thatâs visually reminiscent of a Telecaster neck pickup with 4 poles. The 34â scale, a 7.25â radius, and a â54 âCâ maple neck make this a comfortable play.
The Fender AVII â54 P-Bass ships with a vintage-style tweed case with crushed red interior.
