Gibson Custom 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue Electric Guitar, Murphy Lab Light Aged Dark Walnut
Did you do a double take on this Gibson Custom Shop 1968 Les Paul Custom in Dark Walnut too? Fresh in from our friends in Nashville, this Les Paul Custom comes to us as part of Gibson's Greatest Hits collection. What is the Greatest Hits collection? This series offers some of Gibson's finest designs with some "what if" alterations featuring special colors, specs, finishes, and more. Lets dive a little deeper.
What better way to celebrate the Les Paul Custom than with a 1968 reissue. Originally discontinued in 1961 to make room for the SG model, the Les Paul Custom wasn't brought back into production until 1968 and this time with a maple top amongst a few spec changes. Staying true to the history, this Les Paul Custom spots a solid 9 lb 6.4 oz solid mahogany body with a maple cap. A 4-ply black pickguard, gold hardware, and witch hat knobs complete the body.
Attached to the body in a traditional set-neck Gibson design, a period correct long neck tenon mahogany neck is glued into the body they meet around the 16th fret. This example sports a authentic '68 medium C profile that is very comfortable. The neck is topped with a rich ebony fingerboard with block inlays and is crowned with 22 medium jumbo frets.
For its voice, this Les Paul Custom features 2 '68 Custom Humbuckers in both the bridge and neck positions. These pickups provide plenty of vintage-inspired mojo with added power, clarity, and punch. Controls are the standard 3-way switch, 2 volume, and 2 tone configuration housed under witch hat style control knobs.
High quality gold hardware makes the entire instrument pop. Strings are loaded through the ABR-1 adjustable bridge with stopbar tailpiece and make their way to the nylon nut before being strung to pitch with the Kluson Waffleback tuners which are located on the period correct 14-degree headstock with the iconic Les Paul Custom split diamond logo.
The entire instrument is finished in a Dark Walnut and has received the Murphy Lab Light Ageing treatment. This ageing process replicates decades of honest play wear including finish checking, hardware patina, and dings/dents/light scratching, all done tastefully.
Complete with a black hard-shell case and orange plush lining, this Les Paul Custom is ready to be enjoyed and look good doing so.
