Gibson Custom Shop 1961 ES-345 Reissue Electric Guitar, VOS Zenith Gold
We've struck gold with this Gibson Custom Shop 1961 ES-345 limited run, well, Zenith Gold. From the expert luthiers at Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, TN we have this elegant semi-hollow dressed to impress and sound good doing so.
Originally debuted in the early '60s, the ES-345 was designed to be an upscaled sibling to the ES-335, offering players tonal variety with elegant appointment upgrades. True to its vintage counter part the double-cut body is constructed from a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple laminate for excellent resonance and clarity. A solid maple center block under the hood to increase sustain and fight against unwanted feedback. The entire body is double-bound for extra flair that makes that Zenith Gold finish pop.
Attached to the body by a long tenon neck joint, a bound mahogany neck is secured into place using hide glue, the long tenon joint and hide glue pairing ensures solid contact and increases sustain. The mahogany neck features a authentic 1961 neck profile which offers a slim taper feel that plays extremely comfortably. The neck is topped with a 12-inch radius rosewood fingerboard and is crowned with 22 medium jumbo frets and aged celluloid split parallelogram inlays.
To amplify its voice, the body is loaded with '57 Classic humbuckers in both the neck and bridge positions. These pickups delivered warm, articulate P.A.F inspired tones effortlessly. Unique to the 345 models are the inclusion of the mono Varitone switch which offers a range of filtered sounds that the player can craft to their own satisfaction. Standard ES controls such as 2 volume/tone controls and a 3-way switch offers additional tonal adjustments.
Strings are loaded through the Stopbar tailpiece and ABR-1 bridge before making their way to the nylon nut, and are strung to pitch by the Grover Milk Bottle tuners. The headstock features a slick black stinger on the back - a nod to a desirable repair touch up on vintage Gibson's (don't fret, this headstock is 100% fine and is purely cosmetic). Thanks to the VOS finish on the instrument, the nickel hardware showcases a lightly aged patina and the Zenith Gold has a subtle matte sheen, giving the guitar a gently-loved vintage look and feel.
