Heather Brown Electronicals The Volga Preamp Effect Pedal
There's something about those Russian tube amps that just won't quit – case in point: The Heather Brown Electronicals The Volga Preamp. Throwing it over to one of Mike Matthews's many beloved tube amps – the Sovtek MIG 50, the Volga Preamp faithfully replicates its sound and response entirely through JFET emulation.
The Volga Preamp is, like all other Heather Brown Electronicals creations, a labor of love. The pedal in question recreates the sound and frequency of an original early-'90s Sovtek MIG 50 (Heather's personal one, to be precise). A robust control setup shaping the pedal's JFET heart and brain punches up to offer a deeply customizable experience while allowing for the Volga to be a set-and-forget pedal – not an endless tinker, though it's fully open to the possibility.
Amp emulation is a timeless tradition. The Volga summons the unique tones of Sovtek tubes with a vast three-band EQ section to sculpt. Sovtek's legendary top-end chime, compression, saturation, and low-end harmonics are all ready to party along with a special consideration straight from Heather: A three-way "channel select" switch. While the MIG 50 only had two channels (represented by the Volga's "warm" Channel I and "bright" Channel II) the Volga features an auxiliary third option that mixes the two together for something new. There's new places to go with vintage Russian amps, yet!
A tribute to tube muscle penned with JFET transistors, The Volga Preamp is from Russia with love.
- All-analog preamp effect with JFET design and Sovtek tube amp tone
- Three-band EQ section and Presence tone control
- Independent warm and bright "channel" controls
- Three-way "channel" select control
