Iris Guitar Company OG 12-Fret Acoustic Guitar, Adirondack Spruce/Mahogany, Burst
The Iris OG 12-Fret expands on the original OG design by shifting the neck joint to the 12th fret, offering a traditional silhouette with updated build integrity and construction details. Built by the Iris Guitar Company in Burlington, Vermont, this model draws on Depression-era steel string influences while staying firmly rooted in the contemporary handmade acoustic world.
At the core of the OG 12-Fret is a spruce and mahogany pairing—Adirondack for the top and mahogany for the back and sides—constructed using scalloped Adirondack bracing. This combination is common among small-shop builders for its structural reliability and historical precedent. The 12-fret configuration naturally relocates the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout, affecting string tension and geometry in a way that subtly distinguishes it from its 14-fret sibling.
The neck is shaped to a comfortable C profile and joined with a dovetail at the 12th fret. It’s topped with an Indian rosewood fingerboard set to a 16-inch radius and adorned with understated plastic dot inlays. Players will find 19 frets in total, with a scale length of 25 inches. The nut measures 1 3/4", while string spacing at the bridge lands at 2 7/32". Vintage-style open-back tuners with cream buttons and a bone nut keep tuning performance reliable without drawing attention to themselves.
Like the rest of Iris’s catalog, the OG 12-Fret opts for practical finishing touches: a bar-style Indian rosewood bridge, a firestripe pickguard, tortoise body binding, and an open-pore satin nitrocellulose finish with a hand-applied burst. No electronics are present by default, emphasizing its role as a player-focused acoustic instrument.
