The DarkRay, a celebrated and coveted collaboration model between Music Man and Darkglass Electronics, steps out into the limelight again with a sleek Stealth Black finish, a sturdy, reliable, and expressive build, and all the musical mad science under the hood we've come to know and love from the name.

The Ernie Ball Music Man DarkRay is a definitely a brilliant flash of bass guitar design in real-time. Coupling Music Man's player-forward playability with iconic Darkglass tonal alchemy, the DarkRay is a one-of-a-kind collaboration model never to be missed. This all begins with Music Man's classic contoured, lightweight StingRay doublecut ash body and roasted maple neck. The roasted maple neck enters the conversation with a gunstock oil and wax hand-rubbed finish and a deep, dark ebony fingerboard with twenty-two wide, high-profile frets. Making playability a total dream, the DarkRay is unencumbered at every position on the neck to encourage bold and dynamic playing.

At the heart of the DarkRay, the true magic manifests. The DarkRay kicks off with a familiar, powerful neodymium magnet humbucker pickup – the kind you'd find and rely on in Music Man StingRay bass models. However, as we've come to know and love, the DarkRay sets itself apart with a Darkglass Electronics-designed preamp that pushes the bass solidly into new territory. The Darkglass preamp couples with two onboard distortion circuits, "Alpha" and "Omega," accessed via the DarkRay's three-way preamp switch. An LED indicator signals where you're at with the preamp – its normal setting, Alpha's bold distortion, or Omega's gnarly fuzz – so along with Darkglass science, you get that added visual flourish.

The DarkRay is then treated to a number of added appointments to bring the whole experience to the next level. Matte black hardware ties the model together with custom lightweight Music Man tuning machines in the iconic three-and-one headstock arrangement. A Vintage Music Man top-loading bridge with steel saddles lands at the scale's opposite end for facilitating an incredibly sturdy base, and of course, the body's satin Stealth Black finish calls upon a cool, shadowy aesthetic. A Mono brand softshell case travels with this DarkRay model.
