Gibson Les Paul Custom '70s Electric Guitar, Buttercream Top w/ Hardshell Case

Embodying an impactful evolution in the Les Paul legacy, today's Gibson Les Paul Custom 70s is a welcomed revival of a classic. Assembling with some of Gibson USA's finest materials, electronics, and appointments, we're treated to a showstopper of a Les Paul.

The Les Paul Custom was first introduced in 1953. At Les Paul's request, Gibson produced a Les Paul guitar model that "looked like a tuxedo." The original model was discontinued eight years later before being reintroduced in 1968. Moving into the '70s, the Les Paul Custom's production was moved from Kalamazoo to Nashville, receiving a number of refinements and upgrades that elevated the guitar altogether. After twenty years of offering the Les Paul Custom exclusively through the Gibson Custom Shop, Gibson debuts this new, American-made Les Paul Custom model. Today's Les Paul Custom 70s calls on the image of original '70s Les Pauls for an authentic representation for the players of today.

There's quite a bit to get into with this Gibson USA model. This begins with a single-cutaway mahogany body with a three-piece maple top. The body is fitted with five-ply top binding and three-ply back binding to highlight the curvature of the guitar and add a geometric element to the overall presentation. Moving from here, a maple neck joins in in a 70s profile with a volute on the back of the headstock. This neck, authentically taking that '70s-feeling fit, inspires seamless moves from lower to higher registers as players explore the full scale length. A bound ebony fingerboard is lined with twenty-two Medium Jumbo frets and Mother of Pearl block inlays and facilitates articulate fretting.

Onboard, the Les Paul Custom 70s features two Calibrated T-Type humbucker pickups with individual volume and tone controls wired to Orange Drop capacitors. Powerful and nuanced, these humbuckers play with all the complexity Gibson pickups are known for while you mix through their vast tonal spectrum. The intriguing sounds of these humbuckers are bolstered by the sturdiness supported by the guitar's hardware setup. An aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece land at the base of the scale for sturdy intonation alongside a Graph Tech nut and Grover Rotomatic tuning machines. These specs align with a number of period-accurate features. Posi-Lok strap locks fall in line with the original '70s vision while a five-ply pickguard and '70s-era-style Witch Hat control knobs accompany. This American-made Gibson travels with an included Gibson hardshell case.

For anyone seeking a coveted '70s model like a Gibson Les Paul Custom, the Les Paul Custom 70s is an authentically honest and impressive representation of a key moment in Gibson history.
